Job Description

The warehouse operations manager will maximize the performance of the site by directing the daily, weekly and monthly activities; providing leadership, motivation, assuring quality, training and development of the workforce. The Operations Manager strong leadership role will direct a team of exempt and non-exempt employees in a high-volume supply chain operation. A challenging industry; accuracy, progressive successes in performance-based environment that focus on customer service, satisfaction, ability to prioritize and continued improvement are essential skills the warehouse operations manager must possess.

  • Execute Customer contract requirements and identify accessorial activity and ensure necessary documentation
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining effective Customer relationships
  • Utilize the site warehouse Management system to ensure:
    • Management of cycle counting / adjustment / rotation programs;
    • Productivity and Space utilization (efficient product placement, etc.);
    • Accuracy (to floor and Customer book);
    • Identify opportunities for technology enhancements
  • Deliver a safe, secure, clean and fair work environment for all employees and sub-contractors
  • Conduct employee performance reviews, development, Training and/or progressive action plans as needed.
  • Ensure compliance to the routines outlined by the Director of operations, ability to meet all deadlines
  • Ensure company policies are communicated, applied and enforced (i.e. accounting, operational, safety, regulatory and administrative)
  • Participate in continued management development, training as defined by the director of operations
  • Champion a strong performance leadership responsibility, such as leading by example, having full knowledge of all department’s processes & procedures, providing an open door policy.
  • Ensure the employees have proper access to the necessary tools to perform their assigned duties and that the tools are routinely maintained
    • Operate within the agreed budget (P&L) for the site
    • Ensure all inventory accuracy metrics are met; ensure continued compliance to meet TL9000 requirements.
    • Coordinate the collection of performance measurements consistent with Customer, vendor and Excel (Balanced Scorecard) contractual requirements
    • Understand process performance versus target objectives, identify reasons for variance, communicate and implement necessary changes
    • Ensure daily / weekly workload planning and volume forecasting routines are accomplished (i.e. staffing, equipment, space)
      • Active participation in Continuous Improvement and Quest Workshops

      • Adhere to all OSHA regulations, Company mission, HR/Payroll processes & procedures; keep accurate and up-to-date attendance records, employee skill sets, certifications and records of career development programs.

      • Conduct quality audits, provide reports as needed, monitor all supply levels & determine timely reorder

Job Requirements

  • 1-3 years supply chain management experience in transportation, distribution and/or freight management
  • 2-4 years in a supervisory/management role
  • A degree in Logistics, Industrial Engineering, or a related operations discipline preferred
  • Experience managing full P&L
  • A hands-on management approach that encourages change and creative problem-solving
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced and high-intensity environment
  • Experience in a large distribution center strongly preferred
  • Ability to interact effectively at multiple levels in support of customer relationships
  • Ability to meet strict time frames in environments with zero tolerance for failure
  • A commitment to continuous improvement in an ever-changing industry
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and high integrity
  • Strong relationship-building skills
  • Ability to groom and grow others
  • Self-confidence (particularly with client relationships)
  • Must be proficient and efficient in all Microsoft suites and outlook
  • Great Plains and Red Prairie experience strongly preferred
  • Must be familiar with QMS, TL9000 and ISO9000 processes and procedures
  • Must have experience with OSHA regulations, Safety/Security processes and Federal and State employment laws.
  • Must be flexible and available in a moment’s notice; based on business need - including weekends, Holidays and before/after regular work hours.
